eoc-sabogate paper

Could you imagine walking down the street in your new mink coat and having someone come up behind you and spray paint it? In the 1990s this act of eco sabotage used to be done on a daily basis because they were protesting minks being killed for someone to wear. Eco sabotage is every crime or act done to emphasis the importance of the environment or certain animals. As shown by Carl Hiaasen in Hoot, eco-sabotage, the destruction of property by vandals, is ethically justified in certain situations and can also be effective in solving some environmental issues.
In hoot, a young boy named Mullet Fingers commits eco-sabotage when he learns that Mother Paula’s All American Pancake House will be constructed on the land where there are borrowing owls. Unlike the Eco-saboteurs that caused million of dollars in damage, Mullet Fingers commits innocent acts of sabotage at the construction site. He has done acts like pulling out the survey stacks, putting alligators in the toilets, and removing the seats on the bulldozers. All of these acts cost little to no money, only aggravation to the construction manager and loss of time to the construction of the pancake house. Eco-sabotage can be justified because it is a legitimate cause. Using Hoot as an example, all of Mullet Fingers actions are towards saving the owl’s environment and no one gets severely hurt. Even though Mullet Fingers uses cotton mouth snakes he admits that they cant “…hurt a flea…” because he tapes “… their mouths shut.” (Hiaasen 122) Mullet Fingers had put out the snakes to scare the Rottweilers that were guarding the construction site. Once the dogs were on longer paying attention to the construction site Mullet Fingers was then able enter the site and continue he acts of eco-sabotage.
There can be times when eco-sabotage groups take their actions a little to far. One way that their actions could go to far is if someone or thing was endangered. There was an act of eco-sabotage reported by a man named Phil Hawkins in Portland, Oregon that put people endanger. Because Hawkins is a fisherman he has to worry about “…packing the right rod, the right flies, the right equipment and food …” but he never dreamed of having to “…worry about spikes or nails in the river…” that would tear his boat up. Another action that crosses the line of being acceptable is when it begins to cost massive amounts of money to repair the damage done. One of the most costly anti-furs acts taken by A.L.F. was committed on November 12, 2007. At the Alaskan Fur Co. the eco-saboteurs throw flaming devise in the window. The devise destroyed the first floor of the two-story building causing 2.25 million dollars in damage. Eco-sabotage groups have taken their acts to far when innocent people get caught in the middle of their actions. The A.L.F. wanted to bomb a professor from UCLA’s house for doing animals testing. Then A.L.F. apparently left the “ Molotov cocktail” at the wrong house. Instead leaving the bomb at the professor’s house they left it at his next-door neighbor, a seventy-year-old lady’s, house. The bomb did not function properly but if it had, the house would have blown.
Eco-sabotage can be effective at getting ones point across to those who wont listen or talk out the problem. “ Bush rolled back every environmental protection,” Wade said. “No one was responding” A 19 year old, named John Wade, at Mary Washington Collage felt that Gorge Bush wasn’t doing anything to help save the environment so he took action. He damaged equipment at Short Pump Town Center, sports cars (SUV) at a Ford dealership, and windows of McDonalds restaurants. As a result he was put in prison for the next three years following his act of eco-sabotage. Although sent to jail he made a big statement in Richmond, Virginia Eco-sabotage can be very effective in terms of stopping what the eco-sabotage groups are protesting. Once the project is stopped the people behind the project reassessed how important their project is in comparison to the damage done if the project were carried out. An example of this is when people spike trees. Spiking the tree results in the logger having to stop cutting because their machinery will break. Although the loggers may not realize the damage that will be caused to the environment they are no longer cutting down the trees.
Eco-sabotage is something that happens all the time but can be viewed in many different ways. As stated above, eco-sabotage can be warranted in certain situations and can also be effective. As shown in hoot ecosabogate make consist of more innocent acts that do not cause damage or result in millions of dollars lost. In the past few years more drastic measures have been taken. Have been effective even though they caused much damage. Groups like Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front have the drive to commit these acts because it is all for saving the environment.

Overall, nice job. You are on your way to a very good paper.

Nice opening line.

Try to smooth out and make really clear the meaning of each sentence in the first paragraph

good job using quotes from the book and readings.

Edit closely, I see some mistakes.

explain better what happened in oregon, I know it had something to do with water and nails and boats, but I'm not sure who did what exactly.

check the date on the ALF action in Alaska.

I think you might want to re-order the body paragraphs. 2 fist, 1 second, 3 third

smooth transition between John Wade's actions and spiking trees part.

First sentence in the last paragraph is a little vague or general. What do you really mean to say here.

You might want to get a quote from a person who is inspired by these actions to back up that it does affect change.
